Co-Opping some Marathon Munchies

If there is anything we love to do here at Rise and Tide more so then being outside, it’s eating  (you can imagine our joy when we can EAT OUTSIDE.)

The Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is running a “Munchies with the Marathon” program with many local restaurants to offer specials, events and promotions on race day. There’s a huge list of restaurants participating so check them out.

We’re particularly stoked for the East End Food Co-Op‘s specials (and Piper’s Pub and Over the Bar Bicycle Cafe.)  If you haven’t been to the co-op, check it out. It’s the last natural food co-op (customer/worker-owned) store left in Pittsburgh. You don’t even have to be a member to shop there (but if you are a member — which is fully refundable — you get some sweet discounts. )

Race-day specials at the Co-op include:

> Icebox springwater in a box – on sale for $.79 for a 500 mL carton

> Harvest Bay Coconut Water – on sale for $3.99 for a 1 L carton

> Just Coffee:  Runners High Coffee – on sale for $11.99

> 20% off of all Vega Sport products (Recovery Accelerator, Pre-Workout Energy, Electrolyte Hydrator,Endurance Gel)

> Made to Order in the Cafe: Steel City Sunset (organic juice handmade with carrot, apple, celery, & lemon) 12 oz $4.29 16 oz $5.29

> Blue Lagoon Smoothie (organic handmade smoothie with banana, blueberry, & pineapple juice) 16 oz $5.49

> The Cafe will also host a weekend brunch from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The menu will be geared towards the Marathon crowd!

I don’t know what’s on the brunch menu, but I can tell you that the co-op’s chocolate chip cookies are pretty amazing, crumbly and moist. I don’t know how they do it.
