It’s federal budget season, and there’s some alarm around how the National Park Service might fare. According to TIME, the Associated Press has obtained an NPS memo that details potential cuts.
As the article points out:
“While not all 398 parks had submitted plans by the time the memo was written, a pattern of deep slashes that could harm resources and provide fewer protections for visitors has emerged.” (TIME magazine).
Of the potential effects, the article notes: unprotected sequoias at Yosemite and decreased trash clean up; closed parts of Cape Cod National Seashore, and more.
If you care about your National Parks, land preservation, conservation and having spots in this world that are protected, contact your legislators (Find your House reps here; Senate here), the Subcommittee on National Parks; the National Park Service and tell them how you feel.
